Throgs Neck Bridge Deck Replacement
Our subsidiary, Judlau Contracting, Inc., is replacing the original concrete roadway, which dates back to the bridge's original construction in the late 1950s, with a new, lighter-weight, more substantial steel deck. A work access safety platform was installed beneath the roadway, and temporary overhead gantry cranes were erected to facilitate the roadway reconstruction. This will allow the work to progress while mitigating impacts to traffic.
The scope of work for this critical $259 million project includes installing 240,000 square feet of concrete-filled steel grid deck for the orthotropic deck replacement, which is designed for a 100-year fatigue life. The Judlau project team is also responsible for building a new drainage system, installing roadway lighting on suspended spans, and placing new overhead signs, sign structures, a concrete median, and new concrete decks at the towers and anchorages.
